Demonic hands slaved us from our shores,
Demolishing our rights and amities,
They shackled our being, body and soul,
Silencing our desire to be free!
Our history is painful to tell,
The dangers, disgraces and defeats,
The cruelty they repeatedly impelled,
Designed our occupant’s rear seats.
Out of the depths of sorrows' pit,
Rose many voices protesting our plight,
Then staunch resisting forces lit,
And gave them silence in the night.
Much blood was shed, like rivers deep,
Oh, such a staggering heartless waste!
While loved-ones watched, sighed and wept,
They seized them off without a trace.
Relinquish them, was God's own plea,
Relinquish them and set then free!
The shackles fell, the sound was sweet,
It put full glory in their feet.
The bronze faces stood in shadows dim,
And scamper from place to place,
With hope and a contrite heart,
Integrity, love and joy they sought.
Their glories rose and high they stood,
They weren't surprised, they knew they could.
Now, with heads held high, we all can sing,
We're free at least, let freedom ring!
