Leon Amos Mitchell, 71, of Salisbury, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Robert C. Mitchell and Ocie Mae Wilson Mitchell. He graduated from Salisbury High School in 1959 and attended a vocational training school in Philadelphia, PA.In his early years, he worked as a waterman. He was employed by Peninsula Regional Medical Center as a second class engineer prior to retiring.
Fond memories will be cherished by: two daughters, Vernetta D. Mitchell of Salisbury and Darlene (Pat) Genwright of Twin Oaks, PA; five brothers, Robert (Ann) Mitchell of Quantico, MD, Stanley (Marie) Mitchell of Salisbury, Wayne (Bernadette) Mitchell of Milford, DE, Lonnie (Paula) Mitchell of Washington, D.C., and Leroy (Diane) Lake of Pittsville, MD; six sisters, Cleo Lowery of Philadelphia, PA, Valerie Davidson of Baltimore, MD, Phyllis Mitchell of Salisbury, Diane (Ira) Polk of Wetipquin, MD, Yolanda (Tommy) Williams of Salisbury, and Candy (Bill) Lake of Quantico; two aunts, Priscilla "Aunt Tootie" Mitchell of New York and Pearline Mitchell of Wetipquin, MD; four grandchildren, Chauncey A. Wallace II, Ginelle Quailles, Bremante Tull, and Shania Genwright; one great-grandchild, Malachi Mitchell; special friends, Willie Turner, Bob Stoner and Tim Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by: his wife, Constance Mitchell; one daughter, Terri Mitchell; and one granddaughter, Monik Stewart. Mr. Mitchell will lie in repose on Friday, October 19, 2012, from 6 to 8 PM, at Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home, P.A. on 1618 West Road in Salisbury and Saturday, October 20, 2012, from 10 to 11 AM, at Friendship United Methodist Church in Wetipquin, MD. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Interment will be held in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Wetipquin, MD.
