Ira Polk, Jr., 73, of Wetipquin, Maryland peacefully slipped away from this earthly life everlasting on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born in Eden, Maryland on December 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Ira Polk, Sr. and Bessie Armwood. He received his formal education in the public schools of Somerset County. He was self-employed until his sickness made it so he was unable to work. His greatest enjoyment was being surrounded by his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Polk; three children, Chanelle Farrare, Wayland Mitchell and Susie Walters (Bobby); three sisters, Sarah, Bernice and Christine Polk; three brothers, Nelson, Elmer and Clyde Polk; ten grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; an uncle, Otis Polk; three aunts, Lizzie Maycook, Anne Carre and Shirley Fagan; two beloved nephews, Richard Butler, Jr. and Domnick Mitchell; two devoted caretakers, Frenzella Wilson and Geraldine Gale and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Also, left to cherish his memory four brothers-in-law, Robert and Ann Mitchell, Stanley and Marie Mitchell and Wayne and Bernadette Mitchell and Lonnie Mortin; sisters-in-law, Valerie Davidson, Phyllis Mitchell and Yolanda and Tommy Williams. In addition to his parents Ira was preceded in death by three brothers, John Henry, David C., and Bobby Polk; a brother-in-law, Leon Mitchell; sister-in-law, Cleo Mitchell and a grandson, Kinda'l Mitchell.
A celebration of Ira's life will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, Wetipquin Road., Quatico, Maryland. A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The Rev. Lawrence Purnell, Sr. will officiate.
